Funky Ribbon {Scarf}

I am always looking for fun, funky accessories. And many times, I just can’t find what I’m envisioning. So, I was very excited when my mom and I made funky scarves out of ribbon, trim, and yarn. Even though it’s called a scarf…. it really isn’t the accessory to keep you warm on harsh Iowa winter days. Instead, its more like a necklace… a decoration…an expression of your personal style…

We started with 3 wide pieces of trim. One purple pom-pom trim, one hot pink ric rac, and one multi-colored fringe about 2 inches wide. Then, we added the following 6 strands: one 100% wool aqua yard (from a knitting project),  one funky purple yarn (leftover from a pack of scrapbooking embellishments), one 1/8″ (3mm)  hot pink ribbon, one 1/8″ (3mm) pale green ribbon, one 3/8′ (9mm) white ribbon, and one white fun fur. (each 2 yards in length)

We put all of the strands together and knotted each end approx 3 inches from the end of the strands. This secured all of the strands together.

Finally, we used pieces of the purple yarn to make small ties around the strands at 3 different points along the scarf to further secure the  nine strands.

Project complete! Perfect DIY accessory to give a little “funk” to a basic long sleeve tee.
